Chevron Phillips VPP Star Recertification

Chevron Phillips VPP Star Recertification

Orange, TX (March 25, 2014) - Chevron Phillips Chemical Company LP's (Chevron Phillips Chemical) Orange plant was recognized today by the U.S. Department of Labor, Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA) as being recertified as a STAR site under OSHA's Voluntary Protection Program (VPP). In recognition of this achievement, KevinRockewell, OSHA Region VI VPP Coordinator, presented a VPP flag and plaque to Chevron Phillips Chemical's employees at the ceremony held at the plant in Orange, Texas.

The U.S. Department of Labor’s OSHA established the VPP in 1982 as a premier partnership with labor and management, designed to recognize worksites with exemplary safety and health programs and to identify facilities that can serve as benchmarks for others.  Once a facility achieves STAR status, it is re-audited every three years to ensure they continue their rigorous safety and health program.

“We are proud to be recertified as a VPP Star site,” said Rick Kinder, plant manager of the Orange site.  “Our commitment to the safety and health of our employees is our number one priority.  This accomplishment has been a team effort by all employees working towards a common goal – excellence in workplace health and safety for all our employees,” he added.

Requirements for VPP Star status include a high degree of management support and employee involvement in health and safety; a high-quality worksite analysis program; hazard prevention and control programs; and comprehensive health and safety training for all employees.  The three year onsite OSHA evaluation verifies that the site has maintained excellence in safety and health.

Chevron Phillips Chemical’s Orange Plant employs approximately 150 workers and produces high density polyethylene.  These products are used to make end-use products that each of us use daily.

Business of the Quarter

Creative Upholstery

Business of the Quarter

At its monthly Breakfast Connection, the Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce presented Creative Upholstery with the Business of the Quarter Award.

Rosemary Vasquez, owner, has built her business on high quality work at reasonable prices.  They perform upholstery jobs from tiny to huge.

Dave Derosier nominated Creative Upholstery for the award and said, “I have heard about them from many people – all positive reports; I have never heard of a dissatisfied customer.  The business is located on Martin Street (also known as Snake Road) in Pinehurst.  For years this has been one of the most littered streets in the area.  Creative Upholstery ‘adopted’ the street from Strickland Drive up to Park Avenue and Ms. Vasquez pays out of her own pocket to have people pick up the trash along the street.  It has never looked so clean.”

Ms. Vasquez has volunteered with the Chamber and worked at the VIP tent at the Showdown on the Sabine Tunnel Boat Races.  She has also recently become a volunteer for Southeast Texas Hospice.

Creative Upholstery has successfully filled an important niche in the community satisfying both residential and commercial customers at reasonable prices. GOACC believes that they deserve not only the recognition for their accomplishments but also the encouragement that a Business of the Quarter award delivers.

Creative Upholstery can be reached at (409)779-8139 or on the internet at www.UpholsteryOrange.com.

Way Service Ribbon Cutting

Way Service Ribbon Cutting

The Greater Orange Area Chamber of Commerce held a ribbon cutting ceremony for Way Service. Way is one of the nation’s largest and most experienced mechanical contractors, specializing in the design/build of commercial air conditioning, plumbing/piping, energy retrofits, and the maintenance of these systems. Operating a business in today’s competitive environment is difficult. Focus on productivity and service is paramount. Way can provide you with a broad spectrum of short and long-term solutions for you and your building so that you can focus on your core business. Their commitment to building excellence began 90 years ago, and four generations later, will continue into the future. Way was one of the first companies in the 1980s to utilize performance contracting to track energy efficiency and to use energy savings to pay for building improvements. Innovation and education remain two of the cornerstones of the Way “building excellence” philosophy.
